Goal(s)

Obtain canter departs and transitions to walk or trot that are calm, honest and precise.

Process

On half of your arena, set up two rectangles, each with 4 cones, one ground pole in an X shape on the A–C line, and two trot poles set either on the A or the C line. Ride over the two trot poles in a calm, regular trot and ask for canter in the following departure zone. In canter, ride towards the ground pole and canter over it, then ride a downward transition in the second transition zone. You can then repeat the exercise endlessly on both reins by simply changing rein and therefore direction. Gradually reduce the size of the transition zones over the course of the session(s).

Difficulties

Can be adapted to the size of the transition zone and the horse
