Lateral displacement of the shoulders
Enter the U through one of its two arms. Halt the horse facing the ground pole, then ask for a quarter turn on the forehand to move the shoulders. Walk on to the pole directly ahead, halt the horse again and ask once more for a quarter turn on the forehand to move the shoulders. Leave the U through the second arm. Once the horse is comfortable, the exercise can be ridden at the walk without halting. This exercise helps the horse learn to move the shoulders softly and in a playful, structured way, and helps the rider refine the aids and improve accuracy.
