Goal(s)

Associate the mounting block with something pleasant, making mounting easy

Process

First, teach the horse to move its hindquarters and shoulders, to remain calm when in contact with a stick, and to stand still.
When the rider steps onto the mounting block, using a stick, they will tap the hindquarters/shoulders, depending on the horse's position, and move the equine so that it "parks correctly." To associate this with something pleasant, it is preferable to reward the horse.
This will facilitate the use of different mounting blocks (chair, step, stump, platform, etc.) and situations for mounting/remounting (on a trail ride, in narrow spaces, etc.)
Later, a simple hand gesture will suffice once it is learned.

Difficulties

Keeping a horse attentive so it associates the gesture well, being able to mount from both sides (in case of emergency)

Groundwork | Easy

Teach your horse to touch an object

PREMIUM

Groundwork | Easy

The “changing eyes” exercise teaches the horse to follow a pressure, even when that pressure asks him to move in the opposite direction from the human. 🧠 This exercise develops: the horse’s ability to think, his ability to respond correctly to pressure, his confidence when moving without directly “following” the human.

Groundwork | Medium

Desensitising the horse to objects on the ground so that he is not afraid when they pass in front of or behind him. 👉 This exercise is an excellent prerequisite for long-reining work, but it also helps make the horse braver, more confident, and calm in unusual situations.
