Discover a wide selection of ground pole and cavaletti exercises, tested and added by the Appaloo Equestrian riding community!
Cavaletti are small obstacles that are perfect when you don't feel like setting up a full course with jump standards and jumping big fences. They are also an important part of the early training of young horses as they develop physically and athletically.
Despite their low height, cavaletti are far from being easy. They are a great way to work on your horse's flatwork, balance and control. They can also help you improve your show jumping, as they teach both horse and rider to manage rhythm, straightness, stride and lines.
Trotting over ground poles is another excellent way to develop your jumping skills. Ground pole exercises help build a balanced, athletic physique while improving the connection between the horse's mind and body.
On Appaloo Equestrian, you'll find a wide range of cavaletti and ground pole exercises, each designed to support your horse's development in both dressage and show jumping.
Our sessions are sorted according to the rider and horse's level, training area and available equipment.

We also provide step-by-step instructions explaining exactly what to do to successfully complete each exercise. We'll highlight the difficulties you may encounter and give you tips on how to overcome them if you're struggling.
For exercises where precise distances are required, we'll even calculate the distance between your ground poles, based on the number of strides, the gait and your horse's size.
In short, we've got all the essential tips you need to make the most of your training session with your horse.
